hiii! thanks for being here. i hope you got a chance to mosey around the website and view all of the collections. this space will be dedicated to works in progress that don’t have a proper home on the website yet. im gonna call it paint on the floor, because the floor is most likely where i’ll be taking all the pictures of this work and there is in fact a lot of paint on it. i wanna talk to you like i talk to my friends, stream of consciousness, stories, ideas and questions. a place to grow, evolve, and share.
to start, i’d like to share with you this large piece i’m working on. this is inspired by a recent trip i had to florida. the time i got to spend there felt mindful and relaxing. i visited during the full moon in june, and alongside friends and strangers we danced under the glow and set intentions. as i was admiring her beauty, the reflection of the water illuminated a staircase right up to her. an invitation to join her. i tried to do the moon justice here, but i’m not sure if i am one hundred percent satisfied yet.

this next piece is something smaller that i started to play around with. i had leftover pieces of cardboard that were originally used as a layer to protect paint from bleeding onto fabric. i kept the cardboard because i enjoyed the colors and texture and knew they would make a fabulous collage. i took my favorite pair of scissors (i enjoy cutting things up a lot. i find the tactile sensation to be quite satisfying) and began chopping away. different shapes and sizes. next, i arranged them. i let the shapes decide where they wanted to go and placed them down with doubled sided tape. it reminded me of a project i did in elementary school and i appreciate the nostalgic feelings art brings me. i’m constantly venturing back in time, being inspired by previous projects, and giving them a whole new meaning. the original project was a 3D sculpture. i vividly remember picking out styrofoam shapes and cardboard at the store with my grandmother. i spray painted it with excitement and stuck it together using toothpicks. i was in 4th grade and at the time it was bigger than me. i even splatter painted certain pieces inspired by my favorite artist at the time, jackson pollock. i know mini me would be proud that we’re still creating, that we are an artist & always have been.
i also like this piece, because it's fun to flip around.

lastly, a friend of mine gifted me a fabulous book for my birthday, “journey to the heart” by melody beattie. i’ve been reading it everyday since. i find the messages to be thoughtful, and as i do, read into each one as if they were written just for me. each day comes with a little story, and after a small phrase to keep with you as a mantra. as i’m writing this, it is june 28th and todays mantra is “all you have to do about your feelings is feel them.” i challenge you to test it out. (and i try not to read ahead, i like the surprise, though sometimes it is tempting… i will confess i already read tomorrows) i like this one too, “you’ve connected to yourself. you’re connected to the world around you. now, keep your connections here” so if you’ve found your way here, i just want you to know my intentions for you are pure, and i hope you will hold the same intention for me as this sh!t is INCREDIBLY vulnerable.
anyways, that’s a really long way of saying i wanted to make some bookmarks. so i got out some paints and i went to work. i intended to put a video on, but quickly got distracted by my supplies and created in silence. here are the three i made and i’m quite pleased with them. buying a paper cutter has been added to my to do list, scissors are wonderful but it’s really hard to cut straight lines.

i hope you enjoyed and thank you for reading along! more updates to come (:
xoxo,
Brooke
